Terms of Use
Use of the "Jewish Alarm Clock" app (the "App") is subject to the terms below. Installing or using the App means you accept them. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.
1. The service
The App provides tools for the Jewish day: halachic time calculations, a siddur, an alarm clock, a Hebrew calendar, a minyan finder, daily learning and search of the sources. The App is a helpful tool only and does not replace a printed calendar, a rabbi or a halachic authority.
2. Times and halachic content — important
- Halachic times are calculated astronomically for the location and method you chose, and shown on the stringent side. They may be off by a few minutes because of elevation, horizon, daylight-saving settings, location accuracy or differences between calculation methods. Where minutes matter (latest Shema, the start of Shabbat, the end of a fast and so on), compare with an authoritative printed calendar.
- Prayer texts are based on open sources (mainly Sefaria and Wikisource) and were edited carefully, but errors may remain. Corrections are welcome.
- Halachot, the "minute of Torah" and "Ask the sources" results are quotations and references to sources — not a halachic ruling. For any halachic question, ask a rabbi.
- Israel / diaspora (second day of Yom Tov, Torah readings) is set by the chosen city. It's your responsibility to make sure the chosen city is correct.
3. Alarm clock and reminders
The App does its best to fire alarms and reminders on time, but they depend on the operating system, battery and do-not-disturb settings, system updates, volume and the state of the device. Don't rely on the App as your only means for events where being late or missing them could cause harm. We are not responsible for damage from an alarm that didn't ring, rang late or rang at the wrong time.
"Shabbat mode" silences or stops alarms according to the times and settings you chose. It's your responsibility to check in advance that the settings suit your custom and location.
4. Find a minyan and third-party information
Synagogue details and prayer times come from external databases (GoDaven, the Nedarim Plus prayer-times project, OpenStreetMap) and are provided by communities and the public. We don't verify them and are not responsible for their accuracy, timeliness or availability. Check before you go. "My minyanim" is a personal list you manage yourself.
5. Content from Sefaria and open sources
Books, commentaries and translations are loaded from Sefaria and other open sources, subject to their licenses (usually open licenses such as CC-BY, or public domain). The rights in the texts belong to their owners. Don't use the content in breach of those licenses.
6. Free, with donations
- The App is completely free, with no ads and no subscription. Every feature is open to all users.
- If you'd like to support development, you can make a one-time donation (for example ₪18, ₪36, ₪50 or ₪100) from within the App. A donation is a voluntary gift, not a purchase of a service or feature: it unlocks nothing, grants no additional rights and obliges us to nothing beyond our thanks and a "donor" badge in the App.
- Payment is processed and managed by Google Play under its terms and refund policy. There are no recurring charges and no automatic renewal.
- A donation is not a gift to a recognized charitable institution and does not qualify for a tax benefit.
7. Permitted use
The App is for personal use. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, redistribute or sell the App or parts of it, or use it in a way that overloads the external services it contacts or breaches their terms.
8. Intellectual property
The App, its design, code, icons and original content belong to the App's developer or are lawfully licensed. Texts from open sources are subject to their original licenses. Names of third-party services (Google Play, Sefaria, GoDaven, Nedarim Plus, OpenStreetMap) are the trademarks of their owners.
9. Limitation of liability
The App is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose or freedom from faults. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App's developer is not liable for any direct, indirect, consequential or other damage arising from using the App or relying on it, including times, prayer texts, alarms, reminders and minyan data.
10. Privacy
Use of information is governed by the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
11. Changes and discontinuation
We may update the App, add or remove features, and change these terms. A material change will be published on this page and in the version update. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept it. External services (such as Sefaria or the minyan databases) may stop working or change their terms outside our control.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and the competent courts in Israel have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing here limits consumer rights that cannot be waived under the law where you live.
